Elevate your weeknight dinner with this vibrant Asian-Inspired Asparagus. Perfectly tender-crisp, savory, and aromatic, this vegan side dish comes together in just 21 minutes, making it the ultimate quick fix for healthy, flavorful eating.

Ingredients

Makes 1 serving

  • 1 butter
  • 2 asparagus
  • 4 hoisin sauce

Method

  1. After breaking the asparagus at its weak point and tossing the woody part out, I wrap the group of stalks with a rubberband to make them easier to cut.

  2. Then I cut the asparagus cross wise into 3/8" pieces. (Does not have to be precise).

  3. On medium heat, melt butter in a skillet and then add the asparagus pieces.

  4. Saute on medium heat for 3-4 minutes stirring frequently.

  5. Reduce temperature to low.

  6. Add Hoisin and Sweet Chili sauce to asparagus and stirring to mix thoroughly.

  7. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes on low stirring frequently.

  8. Enjoy!

Cook's notes

  • Use a hot wok or skillet to achieve a slight char on the asparagus for a depth of flavor.
  • Snap off the woody ends of the asparagus before cooking; they should break naturally where the tender part begins.
  • Keep the asparagus moving in the pan to ensure even cooking without losing the vibrant green color.

Easy swaps

  • Swap soy sauce for tamari or coconut aminos to make this recipe gluten-free.
  • Add a dash of toasted sesame oil at the very end for an extra layer of nuttiness.
  • Incorporate sliced shiitake mushrooms or snap peas to bulk up the vegetable content.
