Ingredients
Makes 1 serving
- 24 chickpeas
- 3/4 almond butter
- 1/4 lemon juice
- 3/4 garlic
- 3/4 salt
- 1/2 lemon zest
- 1/4 red pepper flakes
- 1/3 water
Method
In food processor, purée all ingredients except water until smooth.
Add water,a little at a time, and process until until you reach the desired consistency and the mixture is blended.
Refrigerate, covered. Enjoy!
Cook's notes
- Use high-quality almond butter for the smoothest possible consistency.
- Add a splash of ice-cold water while blending to achieve an extra fluffy, light texture.
- Let the hummus sit in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before serving to allow the garlic and lemon flavors to meld.
- Garnish with a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil and a sprinkle of smoked paprika for a professional presentation.
Easy swaps
- Swap lemon juice for apple cider vinegar if you prefer a sharper tang.
- For a Southwestern flair, blend in a half-teaspoon of ground cumin or a pinch of chipotle powder.
- If you don't have tahini on hand, you can omit it, though it adds a traditional depth of flavor.
- Replace fresh garlic with 1/4 teaspoon of garlic powder for a milder, more uniform taste.
Frequently asked
Is almond hummus healthier than regular hummus?
Almond hummus is an excellent source of healthy monounsaturated fats and fiber, making it a nutrient-dense alternative to traditional hummus, especially for those looking to switch up their protein sources.
Can I use whole almonds instead of almond butter?
Yes, but you will need a high-powered food processor. Blend the almonds until they reach a butter-like consistency before adding your other ingredients for the best results.
What should I serve with almond hummus?
This dip pairs perfectly with crunchy raw vegetables like carrots and cucumber, toasted pita bread, flax crackers, or as a savory spread on your morning sourdough toast.
