This vibrant Creamsicle Smoothie captures the nostalgic bliss of a classic orange-vanilla pop using nothing but whole, sun-ripened fruit. With a luscious texture and a fragrant floral note from the real vanilla bean, this plant-based treat is an energizing pick-me-up for kids and adults alike.

Ingredients

Makes 1 serving

  • 4 mangoes
  • 3 oranges
  • 1/3 vanilla bean
  • 6 strawberries

Method

  1. Peel mangoes and remove as much flesh around pit as you can.

  2. Peel oranges. If you have a good blender, don't worry about the orange seeds, they'll get blended up just fine, as well as the vanilla bean.

  3. Put all ingredients in blender, blend to desired consistency and consume!

  4. Makes 3 large servings.

Cook's notes

  • For a smoother, silkier texture, use a high-speed blender to fully pulverize the tough fibers of the vanilla bean pod.
  • To maximize your mango yield, stand the fruit upright and slice vertically along the sides of the flat, central pit.
  • If your oranges have thick, bitter white pith, peel them but leave a thin layer to provide extra body and fiber to the smoothie base.
  • Since this recipe makes three large servings, freeze any leftovers in silicone molds for instant creamsicle-style popsicles later.

Easy swaps

  • Instead of Vanilla bean, use 1 tsp vanilla extractUse this if you don't have a high-speed blender or want a more subtle vanilla flavor profile.
  • Instead of Mangoes, use Frozen mango chunksUsing frozen fruit eliminates the need for ice and creates a thicker, milkshake-like consistency.
  • Instead of Oranges, use Mandarins or ClementinesThese smaller citrus varieties offer a sweeter, less acidic profile perfect for younger palates.
  • Instead of Strawberries, use RaspberriesThe tartness of raspberries cuts through the sweetness of the mango, offering a more complex flavor balance.

Frequently asked

Can I really blend the whole vanilla bean?

Yes, provided you are using a high-powered blender. The bean adds intense aromatic depth that extract cannot replicate, and it will be completely liquefied.

Is this smoothie suitable for toddlers?

Absolutely. Because this recipe uses whole fruits, it provides a gentle, naturally sweet introduction to tropical flavors without any added refined sugars.

Why does the recipe make three servings despite the ingredient list?

Using four whole mangoes and three oranges creates a significant volume of liquid and pulp, making this an ideal batch-prep recipe for families.

Do I need to remove the orange seeds?

If you have a powerful blender, the seeds will be pulverized and won't affect the texture or flavor. If using a standard blender, remove them to avoid a bitter aftertaste.
