Dill Pickle Dip

This is better than any store-bought dip I have ever tried. I use light cream cheese, but feel free to use regular for added richness.

This Dill Pickle Dip is a creamy, tangy, and utterly addictive appetizer that comes together in just 5 minutes. Perfect for game days, parties, or a quick snack, this kid-friendly dip pairs beautifully with crunchy potato chips, fresh veggies, or even as a spread for sandwiches. The combination of cream cheese, dill pickles, and pickle juice creates a bold, savory flavor that will have everyone asking for the recipe.

Ingredients

Makes 8 servings

  • 8 light cream cheese
  • 2 dill pickles
  • 2 onions
  • 2 pickle juice
  • 1 salt
  • 1 dried dill weed

Method

  1. Mix all ingredients well, and chill for one hour to allow all flavors to blend. This dip is phenomenal with Ruffles chips!

Cook's notes

  • For best flavor, use high-quality dill pickles and reserve extra pickle juice to adjust the tanginess to your liking.
  • Chill the dip for at least one hour before serving – this allows the flavors to meld beautifully.
  • If you prefer a chunkier dip, chop the pickles and onions into larger pieces; for a smoother texture, finely mince them.
  • Serve with a variety of dippers: Ruffles chips, pretzels, carrot sticks, celery, or even toasted baguette slices.

Easy swaps

  • Instead of light cream cheese, use full-fat cream cheese for a richer dip, or Greek yogurt for a lighter, tangier version
  • Instead of dill pickles, use bread and butter pickles for a sweeter twist, or spicy pickles for a kick
  • Instead of onions, use shallots or green onions for a milder onion flavor
  • Instead of pickle juice, use white vinegar mixed with a little water and dill for a similar tang
  • Instead of salt, use seasoned salt or garlic salt for added depth
  • Instead of dried dill weed, use fresh dill, chopped, for a more vibrant herb flavor (use about 1 tablespoon)

Frequently asked

Can I make this dip ahead of time?

Absolutely! In fact, making it a day ahead allows the flavors to develop even more. Just keep it refrigerated and give it a good stir before serving.

What are the best chips to serve with this dip?

Ruffles chips are the classic choice because their ridges hold the dip perfectly. You can also use kettle-cooked chips, sour cream and onion chips, or even veggie chips.

Is this dip suitable for kids?

Yes! The flavor is mild and creamy with a tangy dill kick that most kids love. You can reduce the onion amount if your kids are sensitive to strong onion flavor.

Can I use fresh dill instead of dried?

Yes, fresh dill works wonderfully. Use about 1 tablespoon of chopped fresh dill in place of the 1 teaspoon dried dill weed.

How can I make this dip healthier?

Use low-fat or fat-free cream cheese, reduce the salt, and serve with fresh vegetable sticks like cucumber, bell pepper, and carrots instead of chips.
